Material
In 2019, almost 40 million tonnes of household waste were accumulated in Germany alone. This residential waste is collected and amongst other things sent for mechanical-biological waste treatment at the appropriate plants.
Our reliable and particularly efficient waste shredders are perfect for the treatment of very different material streams.

SHREDDING OF HOUSEHOLD WASTE
Approximately 460 to 490 kg of waste is generated per capita per year. A part of this waste can neither be used as substitute fuel, nor is processing for reintroduction into the raw material cycle possible. This waste is disposed of on landfill sites subject to the most stringent regulations (no penetration of hazardous substances into the ground). This is the worst possible method of waste disposal for our environment.
The aim is, however, to utilise residential waste (this also includes commercial waste from companies which is similar to household waste) far more efficiently. For this more expedient treatment of waste, there are two primary technical possibilities.
Mechanical-biological waste treatment and thermal utilisation
On the one hand, the so-called mechanical-biological waste treatment takes place based on the different compositions of residential waste (residual waste, biological waste, etc.)
At the start of this treatment, bulky foreign objects and impurities are removed with the aid of handling equipment.
After that, the packaged waste is ripped open and roughly shredded with the aid of a pre-shredder (or a bag opener). This process ensures that all materials are opened, and also that the pieces are of a suitable size.
Then the fines (minerals such as sand and stones) are strained through perforated screens.
The metals are removed from the material stream with the aid of a metal separator. All non-ferrous metals are removed with the aid of an eddy current separator.
The various valuable resources such as paper, cardboard, glass and plastic are sorted, collected and reintroduced into the raw material cycle.
The fraction with high calorific value is processed into substitute fuel during the course of further re-shredding. The organic fines are processed into biogas through biological treatment.
Residential waste is also used in thermal utilisation in a waste combustion plant. Heat generated during combustion is used as process heat for the generation of electrical energy and as district heating.
The solution
Our single-shaft shredders are simply predestined for the processing of waste. Thanks to their robust construction, they are not sensitive to extraneous materials and are therefore particularly low maintenance.
In this way, our efficient waste shredders produce a particularly homogeneous granulate which is free of foreign objects and of high quality.
XR class shredders have already proven their worth many times in substitute fuel processing, and can be used both as a pre-shredder and for single-stage processing.
