UNTHA unveils advanced generation four shaft shredder at IFAT
Austrian-headquartered UNTHA shredding technology has unveiled an advanced generation four shaft shredder – the 4th iteration of its already world-renowned RS series.
The industrial shredding specialist revealed the machine at global trade fair, IFAT, in Munich, where a compact RS40 and larger, heavy duty RS100 were on display.
The latest release of this highly-acclaimed shredding technology features a bold new design – with custom hopper colours available – plus a more solid torsion-resistant construction for added machine longevity, and LED strip light indicating the operational status of the shredder.
While the RS is already known for particle precision and impressive material throughputs, small adaptations have been made to the screen body and cutting system symmetry to reduce clogging and further improve throughput performance.
With a direct drive in all machines, the RS features fewer wear parts for simpler maintenance. An integrated quick change screen system increases the speed of this process by 30%. Easier service and maintenance access – all possible with non-specialist tooling – improves the working conditions for the operator while protecting uptime statistics. The noise levels are also 8% lower – as quiet as only 74dB(A).
Improved electronics are complemented by an enhanced touchscreen display with redesigned intuitive interface, for easier error diagnosis and resolution, plus integrated machine hours counter. The control system has improved to performance level ‘d’ in line with EN 13849-1. Proactive condition monitoring is also possible via UNTHA’s software solution – GENIUS.
Additional optional features are also available in UNTHA’s new ‘tech pack’. These include a longer-lasting mechanical seal to protect bearings, wear plates for added resilience against aggressive materials and digital oil level monitoring with automatic switch off. Optionally pretensioned cutting discs to prevent damage from unshreddables, and shaft ventilation to reduce contamination within the cutting system, are also available.
Commenting on the latest release, UNTHA’s responsible R&D engineer Josef Kaindl said: “UNTHA is highly regarded as the pioneer of four shaft shredding technology, and has been contributing to the economical and ecological utilisation of many different types of ‘waste’ materials, for over 50 years.
“But with our rich heritage comes continued innovation – engineering advancements that never stop. Working closely with customers to gather insights from our many global markets, we’re consistently introducing progressive performance features that break new boundaries.
“The result is more strength, more versatility, more uptime, more efficiencies, and more potential for our customer, while controlling costs.”
There are currently more than 5.000 RS shredders installed worldwide, shredding a range of diverse and difficult materials including WEEE, confidential waste, production waste, metals, swarf, plastics, film, and more. These machines are used for size reduction, material liberation and homogenous particle sizing for optimal reuse, recycling, and recovery. As a global group, UNTHA has sold more than 15.000 shredders in total.
To celebrate the launch of the advanced generation RS shredder, UNTHA is offering a voucher redeemable against cutting systems and refurbishments, for any RS30, 40, 50, 60 or 100, ordered between 13 May and 31 July 2024.
